Rifle ban fears are right on target (They'll call it a sniper rifle first)

For years hunters and shooters have been told by the likes of the Coalition for Gun Control (CGC) that they have no intention of going after hunting rifles.
Those who spoke up and tried to tell the media and hunters their hunting guns will be the next target of the anti-gun movement were ridiculed as hand-wringing tin foil hatters.
That was until now.
Panicking over the removal of the long-gun registry, groups like the CGC have revealed their entire hand for all to see. They are now seeking to reclassify hunting rifles by labelling them sniper rifles — just as so many had predicted and warned against.
Arguably the most popular sniper rifle is the Remington 700 series, with a scope, chambered in 308 Winchester. This is the same firearm and the same calibre extremely popular with hunters.
While the CGC feigns interest in a modern looking bolt-action British rifle and the larger calibre 50 BMG, they talk of rifles that can accurately fire a kilometre.
This criterion encapsulates most big-game hunting calibres and certainly includes the Remington 700 series in the most popular hunting calibres.
This is a wake-up call to every single hunter, target shooter, farmer and wildlife organization.
What so many dismissed for so long as paranoid fear is now out for the world to see.
