IS SCRAPPING GUN REGISTRY A PRIORITY? The Harper government is planning to come storming back with a busy legislative agenda next month that is likely to include a bill to abolish the gun registry and an omnibus crime bill that will contain around a dozen pieces of legislation that failed to pass during the Tory minority government... Some true believers have become nervous after reading about the supposed transition of Stephen Harper into a centrist politician who will keep the Liberals in the wilderness by straddling the mushy middle of the political spectrum. But killing the gun registry and bringing in new laws that will expand mandatory minimum sentences will send a signal to supporters that the party has not lost its direction, nor forgotten its roots. The introduction of the new legislation should help turn the convention into a Stephen Harper love-in, where the leader is feted for winning the majority government that so many critics said was beyond him... Mr. Harper should enjoy the calm because there are signs that squalls are brewing for his leadership... The swift passage of an iconic bill like the one killing the gun registry will go some way to restoring the feel-good factor, but in the rough and tumble game of politics, it seems that winning can be almost as alienating an experience as losing. BCWF HANDS OVER WISH LIST TO THE FEDS: BC Wildlife Federation President Rod Wiebe sent a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper congratulating him on winning a convincing majority in the May 2 Federal election and stating that the BCWF is pleased its campaign to scrap the long-gun registry can now move forward with the support of his government... Firearms owners have waited more than a decade for the repeal of the 1995 firearms legislation (Bill C-68), which has criminalized normal Canadians who own firearms and created a large, expensive and ineffective bureaucracy.




Specifically, we look forward to working with the government to introduce legislation to make the following changes once the long-gun registry has been scrapped:



* Eliminate firearm licences or change the duration to life-time licences; absent-minded owners are not a threat to public safety, violent criminals are;

* Eliminate the automatic check of legal firearms owners when a person isstopped for a traffic offence and replace it with an instant check ofcriminal/parole/probation records; hunters and target shooter are not a threat to public safety, violent criminals are;
* Renounce the agreement to implement the UN marking regulations (Firearm Markings Regulation SOR 2004-275) that was passed in 2004;

* Introduce legislation to fix the long-existing technical problems in the current gun laws that were contained in MP Garry Breitkreuz's 2009 private member's bill C-301;

* Cancel the introduction of the proposed new gun show regulations;

* Curtail the RCMP's attempts to unilaterally reclassify firearms."

TOP (NON) COP GETS GUN GRIEF FROM SUBORDINATE: The RCMP's professional standards branch has cleared outgoing Commissioner William Elliott of any wrongdoing for bringing a side arm on a trip to Afghanistan last year. Elliott, the RCMP's first civilian leader, appeared in a photograph from the trip wearing an RCMP uniform and carrying a holstered gun, raising questions about whether he had received the proper training to possess the weapon. On Thursday, national RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Julie Gagnon said the force reviewed two complaints about the incident and dismissed both of them. "The complaints were reviewed and deemed unfounded based on the commissioner's status as a regular member of the RCMP, the training he received in preparation for his travel to Afghanistan and the circumstances at play in that country at the time of his visit," she said. Gagnon was unable to say how many hours of training Elliott actually received. Staff Sgt. Scott Warren, chairman of the officer-safety committee of the RCMP's labour-relations program and one of the complainants, said Thursday that he was not satisfied with the response... RCMP spokesman Sgt. Greg Cox has said that Elliott chose to wear a uniform and carry a gun for personal protection and on the advice of senior police officials. "The commissioner was provided with firearms training adapted to the operational requirements of his travel to Afghanistan," Cox has said. But whether Elliott had enough hours of training was questioned. Normally, RCMP cadets receive 25 hours of training on a firing range. The dismissal of the complaints comes as the federal government begins its search for a successor to Elliott, who announced earlier this year that he is stepping down. Elliott had intended to leave around June but his departure now likely won't happen until around September. (Postmedia News – May 26, 2011)

GOOD INVESTMENT FOR UNION MEMBERS' DUES? Wendy Cukier, co-founder and president of the Coalition for Gun Control, accepted a $25,000 donation from CLC President Ken Georgetti at the national convention in Vancouver. Cukier thanked the CLC and many individuals who have given endless hours and steadfast support fighting the Harper government on the gun registry. She congratulated those NDP MP's who were re-elected while supporting gun control and urged everyone to continue to stand up for the registry. (Canadian Labour Congress media release – May 10, 2011)

MORE WOMEN BUYING MORE GUNS: "I was a victim of a crime. A rape crime," says a woman who wants to go by the name 38-Special-K. A .38 Special is her weapon of choice. And she knows how to use it. 9NEWS NOW caught up with "38 Special" at Sharpshooters in Lorton. "It's like putting on lipstick. It's just part of my make-up." "38-Special" is a member of the Meet-Up group Shooting Divas of DMV (District, Maryland and Virginia). "I was quite scared of guns. They scared me to death," says 38-Special. That was before she met Tina Wilson-Cohen. Wilson-Cohen is an National Rifle Association (NRA) certified firearms instructor and the founder of the Protected Citizens Shooting Academy in Centreville, Virginia which is home to the Shooting Divas of DMV. "The Shooting Divas of DMV was just sort of an afterthought," says Wilson-Cohen. "After teaching as an NRA instructor I researched hoping to find something just for women. Women teaching other women in firearms and self-defense. And I really didn't find anything. So I went out to Meet-Up.com and I started the Shooting Divas of the DMV. And that was in November. Within 24-hours I had 99 members. Female members. So that's telling me there's this huge desire out there. And today we are actually up to 312 members." (WUSA9.com – May 23, 2011)

SNIPER COMPETITORS REJOICE: CMP and Hornady have teamed up to bring a new match to the 2011 CMP Eastern and Western games, and Camp Perry. The Vintage Sniper Rifle Match was proposed several years ago by Dave Emary of Hornady Manufacturing of Grand Island, Nebraska, as a way to include many of the vintage sniper rifles that are in circulation, yet lack an official shooting format. CMP and Hornady included it as a test match for the 2010 CMP Eastern and Western Games with great success, drawing large turnouts and positive comments. The Vintage Sniper Rifle Match will feature a two-man team format, with each alternating as shooter and spotter, and firing 10 rounds at both 300 and 600 yards. Match rifles will be original or replica sniper rifles issued through the Korean War. Allowable optics will be original scopes or replicas, along with a few commercial scopes giving essentially the same optical performance... Short, 20-second target exposures, followed by maximum 20-seconds in the pits, differentiates this match, making it both challenging and fun. Teams must plan and communicate to do well, with the spotter tracking wind conditions, giving clear and concise wind calls to the shooter. (Hornady media release – May 23, 2011)

GUNS FOR PEANUTS: A gun amnesty will likely be declared in Metro Moncton in the coming months... Amnesties are designed to take unwanted guns out of circulation, often with some sort of reward for those turning in a firearm, for example a music player or a digital camera. While it might seem unrealistic to think criminals will turn in firearms during an amnesty, crooks aren't the main target. Rather, gun owners who are no longer interested in firearms are the main participants. Amnesties have worked in other cities to remove unwanted guns that their owners no longer want and which could otherwise at some point fall into criminal hands, for example during a break-in. The RCMP is not allowed to offer inducements to anyone wanting to turn in a gun, however the authority believes that it has that power and it has been in contact with local merchants seeking sponsorship of a "gifts-for-guns" program. Other amnesties in other cities have gone ahead without offering any inducements at all and still recovered many unloved firearms. Nova Scotia implemented an amnesty last year under a "Pixels for Pistols Campaign" and collected 564 guns, five crossbows and 19,613 rounds of ammunition. Halifax police collected 1,074 rifles, shotguns and handguns - including sawed-off shotguns - in its own month-long amnesty in 2009. In fact, anyone who has a gun they don't want can call the police at any time to have it picked up and disposed of, but that is not well known and amnesties serve to publicize that fact. This week, the FBI estimated that the number of violent crimes decreased 5.5 percent from 2009 to 2010, including a 4.4 percent decrease in the number of murders. Because the U.S. population increased during the period, the figures imply that the total violent crime per capita rate and the murder rate decreased more than six percent and five percent, respectively. Based upon the preliminary data, it appears that violent crime fell to a 37-year low and murder fell to a 47-year low. The FBI will report final figures for 2010 later this year.

We’re repeating ourselves, but, as has been the case for quite a while, the decrease in crime coincided with an increase in the number of privately owned guns—particularly handguns and detachable magazine semi-automatic rifles. For example, Americans bought over 400,000 AR-15s in 2009, and trends in AR-15 sales over the last few years suggest a similar number for 2010.

Those who have followed the gun control issue for a few years probably have noticed that with crime declining and gun numbers rising year after year, gun control groups have all but abandoned their previously perennial claims that more guns equal more crime. Even their friends in the news media don’t believe it anymore. The Violence Policy Center and, breaking with past habit, the Brady Campaign didn’t even try to claim that the decrease in crime in 2010 was attributable to gun control.

Neither did Mayors Against Illegal Guns, headed by New York City’s gun control activist mayor, Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg’s rare and welcomed silence is to be expected in this instance, however. New York City’s murder rate rose 15 percent despite its severe gun laws, while Bloomberg dedicated himself and lots of money to criticizing the less restrictive laws that are in place in other parts of the country.

Speaking of cities with less restrictive gun laws, El Paso had the greatest decrease in murder—58 percent— among cities of over 500,000 population in 2010. For those who are counting, El Paso’s estimated murder rate was 0.8 per 100,000 population, while New York City’s was eight times higher at 6.4. Across the border from El Paso, in Juarez, where the gun laws are more to Bloomberg’s liking, the murder rate is over 100 per 100,000.

Adding to the bad news for gun control supporters, the District of Columbia and Chicago—the handgun bans of which were repealed following the Supreme Court’s decisions in the Heller and McDonald cases in 2008 and 2010—experienced decreases in murder of eight percent and six percent, respectively.

si tu veux intéressé la majorité francophone c'est en français que tu vas aller te chercher des membres

Moi je vois ca autrement...

A ceux qui se plaignent que ce n'est pas en francais, deux question pour vous:

1) Etes vous membre de la CSSA (ou de la NFA)?
2) Leur avez vous fait part que vous vouliez des communication en francais.


Pour un OSBL avec des bénévoles, traduire les documents est fastidieux, il faut donc que ca vaille la peine, ou a tous le moins que quelqu'un le demande.

Si vous devenez membre et que vous en faite la demande, possiblement qu'il feront le changement, mais si il n'y a que 2 demandes, toujours des meme personnes, il y a peu de chance pour que ca bouge.

Ou sinon, devenez membre, puis bénévole, et ensuite proposez vous pour faire la traduction. C'est la meilleure option, beaucoup plus efficace que de chialer dans son salon que c'est poche que ce soit pas traduit...

Si je ne met pas de ver après mon ameçon à la pêche, il n'y aura pas beaucoup de poisson qui vont mordre. C'est vrai qu'on est un ptit peuple, pis ça vaut pas la peine de dépenser de l'encre pour quelque chiâleux du Québec. Pour le reste du Canada, le français c'est un prévilège qu'ils nous accordent si on chiâle trop. Si selui qu'on ne peut nommer a eu vent de tout les commentaires qu'on fesait sur lui. Je pense que la CSSA doivent aussi avoir des échos des commentaires qu'on fait. Si comme le dit Gunguru, ils décident que c'est trop fastidieux et que ça vaut pas la peine de traduire leur communications. Bien, pour moi c'est trop fastidieux de faire un chèque et de leur envoyer.

Juste une affaire que certains semble oublier…

Personnellement je ne veux rien savoir que la CSSA s’occupe de moi, vivement qu’il me foute patience et qu’il m’oublie, ca ne me cause aucun problème et je préfère de loin qu’au lieu de payer un traducteur qu’il payent des lobbyistes qui pourront faire voir notre point de vue et défendre nos positions auprès du gouvernements.

Je préfère des organisations qui défendent comme il se doit notre sport et notre passion au lieu de passer leur temps à s’occuper de broutilles comme la traduction de communiqués ou la préparation de poursuite pour diffamation.

Mais c’est souvent le propre de notre société de se regarder le nombril et de se plaindre que personne n’enlève la p’tite mousse qui s’y trouve.

J’aurai une satisfaction beaucoup plus grande en voyant le registre tomber, en qui sait rêvons un peu, en voyant certaines restrictions et prohibitions par décret disparaitre grâce au travail des lobbyiste, que de voir un communiqué en français.

Et je préfèrerai toujours plus adhérer LIBREMENT à une organisation qui défend mes droits en une autre langue que d’être obligé d’adhérer à un organisation qui parle français juste pour garder un droit qui devrait être acquis, et qui malgré qu’elle me parle en français ne respecte en rien notre sport, pour ne pas dire qu’elle est une nuisance (et il y a des vidéos qui le prouve), si on ne se fie qu’a eux, bientôt nous ferons pleins de belles compétitions de pistolet à air comprimés.

(et SVP, surtout pas de logiciel de traduction boboche, c’est des communiqué, pas des instructions pour monter un rack a bicycle... sinon on risque de se ramasser avec des « made in Turkey » => « Fait en Dinde » comme déjà vu sur un chandail…, ou un « Touch Musical Organ » par « Touchez Organe Musicale »)

me disais que ci le federal abolie le registe le provincial a un projet sur la table d'etude

Je croyais à tort que ce forum était consulté par des gens amateurs d'armes à feu, et intéressés à protéger leurs privilèges, et qu'ils laissaient de c^té les préjugés liés à la langue.

De toute facon, ceux qui ont a coeur la défense de notre passion recoivent ces bulletins par emails, et les lisent agréablement meme s'ils sont en Anglais. Les autre continuerons juste a se plaindre en francais...

Il y a très très longtemps que j'ai compris que si je veux de l'info sur les armes, c'est en anglais que ca se passe, c'est d'ailleurs ce qui m'a incité à devenir bilingue.

J'en revient à ma signature, qui résume bien la teneur qu'a pris ce post.

Finalement, Merci Jack d'avoir passé l'info, qui malgré sa réception froide par certains, n'en est pas moins très pertinente.

Y a personne qui t'en veut d'avoir placé l'info sur le forum. La discution a tournée sur la question : Est-ce qu'on devrait oui ou non exiger des association Canadienne d'être bilingue?

Ça été une excuse pour avoir une échange respectueuse sur un sujet qui nous passionne. C'est normal qu'on n'ai pas tous la même opinion sur tout les sujets. Ça sert à ça un forum. Tant qu'il n'y a pas d'attaque personnelle ou d'insulte, c'est parfait. Je respecte tout ceux qui ne pense pas comme moi.

Empêche toi pas d'afficher de l'information. On va essayer de se tenir tranquille.
