RCMP PROVIDES FIREARMS TRAINING FOR TEENS: 16 Alberta teenagers are off to experience a summer camp of a different sort, as they'll be spending one week training with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Regina. The high school students were chosen based on their grades and their interest in a future career in policing. While kids at other camps are roasting marshmallows or learning to macramé, the teens at the RCMP training academy will partake in driving simulations, firearm training, and reenacting scenarios police encounter in the field. The goal of the program is to offer the students a chance to experience what life is like as a member of the RCMP before they decide to submit an application to become a cadet. This is the first year for the RCMP youth camp and the hope is to make it an annual event. (CTV [Calgary] – August 14, 2011)
